Most people want to understand why they do what they do, improve their relationships, and be more effective in their work.

But much of our behavior is habitual and often outside of our awareness. We tend to think, react and relate to other people in consistent ways, driven by unconscious patterns, even when those habits aren’t serving us.

The Enneagram is a framework for understanding personality. It describes nine distinct patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, each shaped by an underlying motivation or way of seeing the world.

Seeing these patterns clearly starts with the ability to observe our own thoughts, reactions and behaviors, rather than simply being driven by them.

The Enneagram helps us develop this capacity. It makes our patterns visible and connects behavior to motivation, so that we can better understand ourselves and other people and begin to make more intentional choices.

How to Use the Enneagram

At Tandem Partners, we use the Enneagram as a tool for understanding what drives behavior and how people interact with each other.

We tend to assume that other people see the world the way we do. They don’t. People think, react and relate in very different ways, and those differences shape how we work together and the impact we have on each other.

The Enneagram gives us a shared language for understanding how we operate. It helps us see our patterns more clearly, recognize our strengths, and better understand what drives other people.

It also creates a pathway for growth. As people understand what drives them, they can begin to shift those patterns and make more intentional choices in how they lead and relate.

In our work with individual leaders, teams and families in business, this changes how people work together. Conversations become more direct, decisions are clearer, and people are less likely to avoid or work around differences.

Most teams focus on the work. We start with how people work together.

We use the Enneagram in our work with leaders, teams and families in business to help people better understand themselves, each other and how they work together.

Leaders

For leaders, the work starts with understanding yourself

  • Enneagram typing interview and one-on-one coaching
  • Understand what drives how you lead
  • Recognize patterns and habits in real time
  • Expand beyond your default leadership style
  • Lead effectively across differences in how people operate

Teams

For teams, the work starts with how you relate to each other

  • See how different ways of thinking, reacting and relating show up across the team
  • Better understand each person’s strengths, contributions and impact
  • Talk more directly about how the team is functioning and where it gets stuck
  • Work through differences instead of avoiding or working around them

Families in Business

For families in business, the work starts with seeing each other more clearly

  • Move beyond the roles people have played in the family system
  • See each other as adults, not just through long-standing family dynamics
  • Better understand each person’s strengths and what they bring to the family and the business
  • Enable more direct conversations about sensitive or difficult issues
